Designated Giving Guidelines
Or HaOlam Messianic Congregation is dependent on Adoni through the faithful and generous tithes and offerings of His people which underwrite the congregation’s ministry expenditures. Undesignated donations go into our General Fund and are used for these basis purposes. The concept of tithing in Malachi, seems to indicate that the whole tenth [goes] into the storehouse, so that there will be food in my house, that basic expenses be met.
Besides this General Fund, we have created four special funds for four distinct and specific purposes. Donations of offerings beyond the 10% "tithes to the storehouse" (Malachi 3.10) may be designated for one of these funds. The funds are briefly described below:
Building Fund

Our current facility
is somewhat of a hindrance to our effectively reaching Israel and the
Nations here in Kansas City. Its steep and narrow stairs, limited number
of classrooms, poor maintenance history, limited aesthetic and Judaic
expression, yearly termite swarm, continual termite infestation, and
limited bathroom accessibility, all work against conveying the
presentation of renewal and LIFE.
G-d instructs the people of Israel, "They are to make me a sanctuary, so that I may live among them.” The primary meaning of "among them" is from the Hebrew b’tokham "within
them," that is, within their hearts and spirits. Nevertheless, it is a
sound secondary meaning that G-d wants us to gather in community. The
resulting corporate expression
of worship constitutes an advance of the Kingdom of Messiah by the
upbuilding of our spirits inHis Spirit and in community learning and
fellowship. Yeshua states it, "I will build my Community, and the gates
of Sh'ol will not overcome it" (Matt 16.18). This statement reflects a
posture of outreach into the kingdom of darkness. Its gates will be
breached as we worship together in spirit and in truth in community.
Therefore,
we feel HaShem wants us to have a building that will functionally and
aesthetically reflect His covenantal Presence with Israel, be accessible
all, as the prophet Mikhah/Micah wrote about the end time restoration of
Israel, "Adoni says, 'I will assemble the lame and gather those who were dispersed, along with those I afflicted. Adoni
will rule them on Mount Tziyon from that time forth and forever." We
need a facility that will be welcoming to all, [it is not now welcoming
to the lame] and have adequate classrooms, youth meeting space, perhaps
even space for our Bar Mitzvah and wedding celebrations!
Building
Fund donations are restricted to the specific goal and purpose of the
purchase of land and/or an existing building, renovation and
improvements to such, or construction of a new building for the
synagogue.
Note: there is implied permission to the Leadership [Elders and Directors] to use building funds for other purposes if extenuating circumstances dictate such. Should the Rabbi announce that the funds will go into the general fund of the congregation, donors can request a refund within fifteen (15) days of the announcement, assuming that donors have provided a current address to the bookkeeper of the congregation.
Benevolence Fund
Bless Israel Fund
The Bless Israel Fund distributes money to various ministries serving in the Land of Israel that are aligned with our vision of sharing the Good News with the people of Israel and/or providing charity for the needy. If you give directly to a charity that claims to help Israel there is a possibility that this charity will bring an anti-Messianic message to its recipients. We are familiar with many ministries in Israel and will select ones that we feel are well run and that will use your funds wisely and efficiently.
Gifts designated to any of the four funds described above are all tax deductible, with the exception of a certain kind of donation to the Benevolence Fund – that is, one which has been further specifically designated for a particular individual or family, unless such designation is considered only a suggestion, and the donor agrees to deem such a suggestion as advisory rather than mandatory in nature. To clarify this delineation further: All gifts to the Benevolence Fund are gifts to the synagogue and while the Benevolence Committee may consider suggested designations for a particular recipient, in no event is it bound to follow them. Donors will not be permitted to recover a contribution because the committee failed to honor the donor’s recommendation. This is done in an effort to comply with IRS regulations which prohibit the deductibility of a Benevolence contribution earmarked to a specific person.
