Or HaOlam Messianic Congregation
Education Department Philosophy
There are numerous injunctions in Scripture which command us to teach Torah. None is more imperative than the commission given to followers of Yeshua HaMashiakh upon His exit from the earth to sit down at The Father’s right hand (Mk 16:19). “Therefore, go and make people from all nations into talmidim, immersing them into the reality of the Father, the Son and the Ruach HaKodesh, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember! I will be with you always, yes, even until the end of the age." CJB (see also Mt 28:19-20) (read more)
Nursery and Preschool Programs (ages 0-5)
Please sign-up all young children before Shabbat Service with one of the nursery/preschool volunteers who greet parents with young children at the door (look for the person with the blue clipboard in hand). Nursery workers devote their time with caring for the children (ages 0-2) and teaching the older children (ages 3-5) how to worship through reading and other activities. Young Children (Ages 6-7)
After graduation from the PreSchool program, the children are promoted to the next phase of teaching. The class meets during the time of the sermon. The teachings focus on stories from Torah appropriate to this particular age group. (email primary contact)
Children (Ages 8-10)
This class meets during the sermon, and follows a curriculum for children in a Messianic home. Jewish family life, living a Jewish life in Messiah, learning more about the festival are the main ideas. Prepares them for making decisions about Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation with the Rabbi. B’nai Mitzvah/Preparation for Young Adulthood (Age 11-13)
In order to transition our children from childhood to adulthood, we focus on activities which promote them from being a receiver to a giver within the kehilat. We provide the basics for reading Hebrew, reciting the blessings upon reading Torah/Haftorah/Brit Khadasha, preparing their first drash, and how to dress the Torah. This class will lead to a promotion within the life of the congregation and may be taken concurrently with formal training with the Rabbi for Bar/Bat Mitzvah. We also discuss Torah application to the life choices teenagers will be forced to make. (email primary contact)
Bar/Bat Mitzvah Study
This is study with the Rabbi in order to provide leadership during the Torah Service as a statement of one’s commitment to Messianic Jewish study of Torah, a life of love to the congregation, and willingness to learn and practice servant leadership in the community. Parents of children need to talk to the Rabbi as soon as the decision is made to do the study. (email primary contact)
