Wednesday, January 27: International Holocaust Remembrance Day observance, sponsored by Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, Icons of the Holocaust: Symbolizing the Shoah in History and Memory, 6:30 pm via Zoom, https://mchekc.org/ for the registration link. The railway cars, the Arbeit Macht Frei signs, the number six million, Anne Frank — all have become enduring icons of the Holocaust. Jewish Studies scholar Oren Stier will discuss how and why these icons have come to stand in for the Holocaust. He will explore their origins, how they have been used and reproduced, how they are under threat, and what the future holds for Holocaust memory.

Friday, January 29: Missouri Right to Life prayer vigil, 1- 2 pm, Ilus Davis Plaza, 400 E. 9th St., Kansas City, MO 64106 (downtown). Join with pastors, students and fellow pro-lifers to pray for the sanctity and protection of life in our country. Also hear from various organizations that address pro-life issues.
