חנוכה Hanukkah Party Sunday afternoon, December 14th

Maccabees fighting the Syrians                                   Click to hear a Sonia interview

Hanukkah חנוכה means Dedication, and is the celebration of the Maccabee victory over Greek-Syrian genocide and assimilation, in ancient times, against all odds.

The celebration will begin at 12:30 pm with a Shuk (marketplace) where you can shop for handmade crafts, books and other items, and schmoozing. (Please bring cash, only some vendors take plastic.)  Meanwhile, there will be a children's Hanukkah Shuk as well.

The Hanukkah program in the sanctuary will be the showing of the movie about our local Holocaust survivor and heroine, Sonia Warshawski, Big Sonia.  The movie is a Hanukkah theme in that Hitler was one of a great succession of demonic despots whom the Jews survived.  Antiochus was Hitler's equivalent, about 2100 years earlier.  The Maccabees ennabled Jews to survive Antiochus.  Sonia survived Hitler.

עם ישראל חי Am Yisrael Khi!  The people of Israel live!

We finish the evening with a bring-and-share meal of victory by faith, of latkes & finger  foods. See What to Bring to a Hanukkah Party.

Again, this year: Homemade Donut/Fritter Contest!  Make your prize-winning donut/fritter recipe at home and bring them ready to serve. Must be made fresh from scratch. Entries will be judged on appearance, taste, texture, aroma, and non-greasy palate. Prize will be awarded for the winning entry. More details and entry forms are here.

Want to make Sufganiyot? (Israeli filled donuts)  Here is the easiest recipe of all by Jamie.  (A 1-minute fun video.)

The Vision of Or HaOlam:

Working to bring Jewish people, and those grafted in, to their covenantal identity in Messiah.  Implies: 1.) Salvation through the Atonement of the Messiah; personal faith in the atoning death and resurrection of Yeshua; it's all about the King  2.) Covenantal identity of Jewish people, not replacement  3.) Restoration to Torah lifestyle  4.) Restoration/survival of the nation of Israel. (Covenantal identity, so Jewish believers don't assimilate.  Romans 11:15 "For if their casting Yeshua aside means reconciliation for the world, what will their accepting him mean?  It will be life from the dead!)
